How personality disorders are treated
Psychological therapy is central to treatment. NICE guidance on borderline personality disorder says drug treatment should not be used specifically for the disorder or its individual symptoms, and suggests considering a comprehensive DBT programme for women for whom reducing recurrent self-harm is a priority.
What therapy works on
- Understanding patterns in emotions, thinking and relationships
- Skills for regulating intense emotions and tolerating distress
- Relationships and interpersonal difficulties
- Insight, effective coping skills and long-term resilience
How therapy with Angela starts
